Q: What can I expect during my initial consultation?

A: Dr. Varano’s Cardio Res-Q program provides superior care and extensive diagnostic, preventative service. In addition to innovative and advanced testing and labs, your comprehensive consultation with Dr. Varano includes thorough evaluations of your:

  • Medical and family history
  • Weight
  • Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • Systemic inflammation

Your consultation can be done in office OR via telemedicine.

Dr. Varano discusses lifestyle factors with you like your diet, smoking habits, and how much exercise and sleep you get. His approach will be based on what will work best for the patient to succeed.

Q: What other tools are available to screen for heart disease?

A: Dr. Varano favors two noninvasive tools to screen for heart disease and help catch it in its earliest phases:

CIMT: This safe ultrasound of the carotid artery in your neck looks for  thickening of the artery due to plaque buildup.

EndoPAT: This screening assesses how well your arteries function. If your arteries don’t dilate well, you might have symptoms of heart disease like fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, and/or arm pain.

Q: How do I prepare myself for my visit and evaluation?

A: Initial visits are best with a CIMT already performed. There is no specific physical prep required for the visit. We do recommend that patients complete online medical forms prior to their visit. We also ask patients to arrive 15 minutes early to ensure everything is completed as a new patient. Coffee, water, and tea are available for those waiting. Vitals will be performed at the beginning of your visit. If you are scheduled as telemedicine, self-reporting is recommended. The consultation will be 30 minutes long. During this discovery period, Dr. Varano will assess what is the best plan for you with three drivers of disease in mind: Normal low risk, Normal High Risk, and Abnormal risk. Reassessment and treatment is dependent on what risk level the patient falls into.

The purpose is to identify vulnerable patients so you don’t become a statistic. Why settle for traditional care when most events get missed? Prevention is the end goal. To get started with your comprehensive cardiac evaluation, call Dr. Varano’s office or use the online scheduling option to book now.

Q: How often are patients expected to be seen?

A: When managing a patient’s care, it really comes down to with vs. without disease. A patient without disease can be assessed yearly or as needed. A patient with disease would require blood testing and evaluation 3x a year. Eventually, that could change to twice a year once stable.

Q: I really don’t want medication. Can I be treated without drugs?

A: Yes! There are clinical grade supplements that can work for you. The only drawback is it may be more expensive and it may mean more pills. We use Fullscript as our dispensary for superior cardiac supplements.

Q: Do I need a cardiologist?

A: No, you do not need a cardiologist.

Q: What if I have a cardiologist, do you send a report to the patient’s cardiologist?

A: By request, yes.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: No, we do not. However, your expenses may apply to an out of network deductible. We have partnered with Reimbursify, an easy reimbursement app to try to get reimbursement. Ask us for more details.

Q: Do you accept HSA/FSA cards?

Yes, we do. They can be used for consults and possible testing, depending on your carrier.
